Finding a comfortable, pretty and properly fitted bra can be a stress-inducing, frustrating affair. It’s the same with swimwear shopping. To lighten the load on both fronts, the expert fitters and style advisors at Good Night Good Morning – Anya, Ana Marie and Lorna – can help you find the ideal bra and suit for your body type.
For the past 18 years the destination shop that has become known as Oakville’s Bra Heaven, has helped countless women of all shapes don figure-flattering undergarments, lingerie, swimwear and more, in sizes ranging from 4 to 24 and cups from A to I.
The drive to outfit women in the right bra – which is as important to women’s comfort and health as wearing the right shoe size — was the catalyst for Good Night Good Morning owner Anya Izakowski to open her shop in April 1998. After graduating in the fashion design program at Sheridan College in 1996 and with her background in the bra industry, starting a lingerie business was a perfect fit.
Considering that only 25 per cent of women are actually wearing the right size bra, she has a lot of work ahead of her. For the uninitiated here’s what’s involved in a bra fitting. First, with your bra and top on, Good Night Good Morning’s experts wrap a tape measure around you to determine your size. The experience is comfortable and professional. A bra fitter will source the right size from Good Night Good Morning’s extensive inventory and wait outside of the fitting room for you to change into the chosen bra. The bra fitter will then come into the fitting room to do any necessary adjustments, make sure the bra fits correctly and ensure you are wearing the best style for your figure.
On offer is an extensive selection of styles and sizes from petite to full figure cups from A to L. Lines we carry are Chantelle, Simone Perele , Prima Donna, Mari Jo, Ulla, Emprainte, Lise Charmell and more.
As with swimsuits, body shapes and sizes come into play in finding the right bra. For example, short ladies will often have a problem with wire digging under their arms or perhaps the straps being too long. Tall ladies may find the straps are too short, and fuller figured ladies may find they are always overflowing in their bras.
Personality and lifestyle also are important in finding the right bra: sports bras for the active set, maternity bras for new moms, mastectomy bras for cancer survivors and so on. Every woman should have at least three everyday bras in her wardrobe – nude and black are the most favorite colours, but more and more women are choosing fashionable colours too.
When it comes to finding a swimsuit that accentuates your assets from the curvaceous to the athletic body, the key is balancing your proportions.
If you are curvier with a full bust, support and coverage in a swimsuit is a must. Opt for ones with underwire or molded cups with adjustable straps, which provide extra support for your girls. Look for swimwear that is cup-sized like your regular bra, including styles that go higher than a D cup. Good Night Good Morning carries swimwear labels Antigel, Prima Donna, Empreinte, Ulla and more that support a larger bust up to an I cup.
For those with smaller chest sizes, opt for tops with some padding and which also create cleavage. And embrace the season’s patterns to create the illusion of a larger chest. Lines by DIVA or Antigel are your best bet.
Tummy-concealing suits can help allay your fears about bearing it all. Good Night Good Morning carries many one-piece swimsuits, tankinis and even bikini styles to help flatten your middle. Consider tailored swimsuits with built-in support panels made by Anita or Prima Donna.
If black is your go-to colour because you think that’s the only way to appear slimmer, think again. Artfully designed colours and bold prints can create definition. Brands including Charmline and Maryan Mehlhorn are known for their colourful patterns that can make any woman look one size slimmer.
If you have more of a straight up-and-down body type you need to look for swimsuits that play up your curves. Tops or bottoms with ruffles, embellished detailing, bows, and bold patterns can create the illusion of a feminine curve.
